Proper position of harness on bed. Short straps to right. Label on upper rear strap (reverse for left handed patients). |

Patient retests breathing. It must be increased. A decrease requires a lossening of harness. | 
Coughing patient grasps harness, twists hands and pulls outward. This forces elborws inward, blocking excessive ribcage expansion. | 
ICU nurse uses elastic harness to move patient without pulling torso or arms. |
Patient tightens harness before major movement (as getting out of bed). | 
Patient loosens harness for walking in ICU. | 
Patient is ready for discharge and rehabilitation. |
